Why do some of my sent PMs go into 'sent items' and others stay in my 'outbox'? How do I know if people have picked up the ones I have sent, or do they move from outbox to sent items when the recipient has opened it?

I seem to have 6 messages in my outbox and a number in the sent items - all the ones in the outbox were written via the PM option on people's profiles OR searched using the name search option. The ones in my sent items are almost all replies to PMs I have had from others

opooh that's easy.

When you hit send - it goes to your outbox. It stays there UNTIL the recipient opens it in his/her inbox.
So if you send me a pm, it'll stay in your outbox until I open (and read) it. Then it'll move from your outbox to your sent.
If you end up deleting messages in your outbox, the recipient won't recieve them.. in worst case, they will get a note that they have a pm, but since you deleted it, there won't be any.. and there might not even be info on who sent it. It's very frustrating when that happens - you know someone sent you a pm, and it could be something important - but you don't know who it was.

nope. But lots kinda thinks that as soon as they hit 'send', then it's delivered.. and if they start cleaning house, well you don't get the message.

I'll leave them all there then, although people will get the same one twice, because my computer froze and I wasn't sure if it got delivered - and now I don't want to delete them in case I delete the wrong ones....

Lina is of course correct lol. To summarise - outbox, they haven't read it yet...sentbox, they have.

In both cases, you have succesfully sent the PM Wink

yup... we tested it on my forum once to make sure.. had a friend on messenger, and we tested to see if she got the pm if I deleted from my outbox - and she didn't.

I haven't gotten to the point yet.. but there might be a small 'problem' when your mailbox is full and you receive a new pm after that - and there's no room for it.

If I remember it correctly, you then need to clean house.. and there should be a link of some sorts where you kinda 're-fetch' the pm's that hadn't room to arrive before.

Sorry I can't be more accurate... I am just so spoiled in my danish forum, that admins got 'upgraded' to hold 9999 pm's - I currently have 67 pages of pm's... and my mailbox is still only 33% full Embarassed

I think our max is 50 PM's in each "box" (so 50 in inbox, 50 in outbox etc) but you shouldn't stop recieving PM's when it gets past the limit, I THINK what happens here is the oldest PM on your list gets automatically deleted to make way for the new one you've just received....so if you dont want PM's dissapearing forever, make use of the save box or copy and paste them onto your PC to save a copy! LOL

Sam...I haven't had anything from you! But My PM inbox has been full for about 2 weeks, and i'm still getting new PM's, as I say the oldest just get knocked off the list to make way PMs (no, not PMS, although.......) Icon_lol
